Manufacturing
The IUT of Cachan certainly presents fairly advanced theoretical learning but also emphasizes the realization and the means of production, in short the purpose of a design project. Indeed, in addition to the hours of practical work allowing us to take control of the various machines (numerical control lathes, 3-axis milling machines, conventional lathes, folding machine, punching machine...) the importance given to manufacturing is found as well in the design phase of the study office and in the project where it is the main tool for the realization of the latter.

Technical documents
Documentation is an essential bridge between the different entities leading to the finalization of a product. The production of phase contracts, manufacturing ranges and tolerancing documents is an integral part of the teachings of the IUT. During the 4th semester, we were able to deepen our methods office skills thanks to a series of practical works consisting in manufacturing all the parts of a pneumatic motor with each class. To do this, we started by determining and then tolerancing the functional surfaces of our parts in collaboration with the other groups themselves responsible for the rest of the parts. Then we wrote the manufacturing ranges and phase contracts that were supposed to guide us during the manufacturing phase.

Manufacturing
After drafting the technical documents, the next logical step is to move on to the manufacturing phase. After having produced the machining program using the computer-aided manufacturing software: TopSolid (see design skills: skill page), it is time to go to the machines and calculate the offsets according to the chosen program origin . After the first test it is necessary to measure the freshly machined part and to correct the tool gauges in order to obtain a part respecting the tolerances determined at the start of the process.
